Stripcharts
For longer term
knowlege, the eye's ability to discern patterns is best achieved thru
graphical means. Shift
& Puff are for short term. Stripcharts are for the
long term.

The Matryx display
can show stripcharts, allowing you to
determine long term trends in true wind and other functions.
These stripcharts have the advantage of being available outside in any
weather. |

OckamSoft
4 also provides stripcharts which, because they run on a PC, have
higher resolution, color and multiple items per page. However, unless
you have a waterproof PC (e.g. a ToughBook), they are usually
relegated to below decks.
Stripcharts are also available on the Eye
wireless PDA which can
be on deck. |

Another
item that falls into this same vein is the
OckamSoft 4 Sailplan
application.
- Sail crossover information
is displayed on a true wind speed vs. true wind angle graph.
- Current and next-leg true
wind conditions are marked.
- If a polar is available, apparent wind
speed lines and targets are added.
- Wind statistics are displayed as
scattergrams and 1 sigma oval for the current and next leg.
- An estimate of wind direction and speed
trend for the next hour is included.
