Vysion™
Vysion™ is the next generation
of graphical displays for instrument systems. It is a processor system
designed to drive commercially available marine graphic monitors. By
separating the display generator from the monitor, the choice of
monitor size, features and ruggedness is no longer fixed.
Features
- Sunlight readable color graphic display.
Provides orders of magnitude more information
than traditional segmented displays.
- Any size monitor can be specified, allowing
number sizes as large as necessary or desired (see table and full-size images).
- Portrait or landscape mode. Portrait mode may
interact with polarized sunglasses.
- Numeric screens are color coded by function to
help quickly identify particular items.

10-up
landscape, day palette
|
- Day and night palettes.
- Suitable for mast or helm.
- Can display bitmaps from onboard PC or pulled
down directly from the internet.
- More reliable than PC software because if its
embedded design.
- When a touch screen is specified (e.g. for helm
use),
several specialized screens such as starting line and man-overboard
become available.
|
Numeric screens
- 1 to 10 items, color coded by type,
user selectable.
- Day and night palettes for each item.
- Remote control via Ockam bus by PC or the Lynx, or local touchscreen.

Bitmap screens
- Vysion supports multiple bitmap pages.
- Bitmaps can be sourced from an onboard PC or
directly pulled down from the Internet.
- This feature can be used for real-time weather
radar images as shown here.
|
Starting line
- Start line information includes bearings, time,
favored end and laylines. ETAs are displayed as elapsed or burn-time.
- Multiple solutions are offered, e.g. direct,
tack and jibe, as well as the dogleg start
(see next). Boatspeed relative to target is calculated for each
intercept point.
- Wind speed and angle variation is displayed in
real-time.
- Adjustable predictor flags show where you will
be in, say, 10 seconds.
- The 'overspeed line' is the line above which it
is possible to cross above target speed.

Man
overboard
- Self-contained MOB system.
- Can be initiated from any screen or remotely..
- Shows MOB location, course to steer, ETA and
time in the water. This
shot shows MOB in night palette.
- Initial point and drifted point (taking current
into consideration) are both shown.
- Boat trail shows your position over time,
helpful for searching.
- Better than GPS alone because it includes
drift, and will perform even if the GPS feed fails.
There are many MOB technologies out there, but the Vysion MOB screen,
because of its simple operation and intuitive
presentation makes it a valuable addition to crew safety. |

The hardware
Vysion is a processor that produces a signal suitable for driving a
video monitor. The monitor can be any device capable of accepting VGA
input (like a computer monitor). Case dimensions are 5.3" x 5.2" x 1.8".
There are many suitable marine-grade monitors available from 8 inches
to 15 inches, and beyond. This allows you to select the size and
features you need for the particular application.
We particularly like the VarTech monitor line because of
its ruggedness, high brightness and bonded display. |
